There are many types of hosting packages you could choose depending on what you need or what you can afford for your website. The most frequently availed type of hosting is shared hosting. Why is it popular? Well, it’s not really because you get a better performance, but rather, it simply is cheaper and more affordable for websites that don’t need much resources. Most webmasters don’t have a lot of budget to throw for a dedicated hosting even if they wanted to avail one and consequently end up sticking with a shared hosting account. But availing a shared hosting package is not always the solution or enough for your website’s needs. Obviously, the reason why it is cheaper only means it has less features that a dedicated hosting can provide.

Alternatively, a VPS hosting is great when it comes to getting a faster server and better performance yet for a very reasonable price. That’s why a lot of businesses have been resorting for a VPS account instead of a dedicated one. You can definitely see a big difference with prices. With a VPS, you get to have your own virtual server and be able to get root access on your hosting account.

You can avail a VPS account from web hosting providers that offer this. But if you’re looking a reliable VPS, then you might want to pick a reliable web hosting provider such as In2net. They have different hosting plans for you to choose from. Their VPS hosting plan is divided into 3 types of packages which are Budget VPS, Power VPS and Extreme VPS. You can have your own VPS account starting from only $9.95 per month with no set up charges. They also guarantee all their customers 99.9% uptime. All their VPS packages include Dual Quad-Core, Vituozzo, Plesk and dedicated IP. And their prices compared to other web hosting are much affordable which is perfect for those who sign up and those who have a tight budget, without having to sacrifice the quality of hosting.

                                                                                                                                                                                                    copyright itsWriteNow.com

For those of you who have read some of my previous posts you may recall me mentioning my other site, Bad Girls of Comedy which showcases female comedians. While working on this site I discovered that I need a way to create my own You Tube videos to put the exact clips I want on my site. What I wanted to do was capture TV and then put it on my site. After a little research this is what I’ve come up with:

Install A TV Tuner Card in my computer and the appropriate software.

Plug my Television cable into my tuner card.

Record the shows I’m interested in.

Use windows Movie Maker to capture video clips and still photos for the site.

Upload the movie clips to You Tube.

You Tube will convert the clips to Flash.

Then I’ll use the embed code to have the exact clips I create on my site. Plus I might get a little exposure from You Tube as well.

I’m sure there are many ways to do this. This is just the simplest solution I came up with it. As usual if anyone has better suggestions or additional info I would love to hear about it. Emma

                                                                                                                                                                                                    copyright itsWriteNow.com

My subscriber count has been slowly increasing. As of this writing I have 31 subscribers. I find it amazing that 31 people were kind enough to subscribe to my blog. I shall try not to disappoint.

Once I get to 100 subscribers. I will proudly add the subscriber count ticker. And have some type of contest, event, or celebration. I’m not sure yet. But, I’ve been contemplating some ideas. The same goes for It’s Write Now’s, 1 year birthday.

Imagine my horror, when on Friday morning, I checked my Feedburner feed. And discovered I had “Zero” subscribers. “Everybody Unsubscribed At Once!”. I better step it up a notch.

With some further investigation. I discovered the “Resync Now” button, under the “Troubleshootize” tab, in my Feedburner feed. Within minutes my subscribers came back to me. Thanks!!!

So, if you notice a strange drop in your number of subscribers. Pick up your self esteem, and head over to Feedburner, and do some investigation. Also, if you have some time check out some of their new offerings.

It seems like everytime I poke around the site, I find some new service they’ve added. I’ve yet to realize the full potential of Feedburner. If anyone is using anything, new or interesting from Feedburner, I’d love to hear about it. Emma

I don’t know if you’ve noticed. But It’s Write Now, has recently gotten a new favicon. It’s the little symbol in the title bar and in the shortcut.

I guess anything is easy once you do it. Here is a quick explanation of how I created a favicon for my site.

First find a picture you like. Re-size it to a small square. Then use a favicon creator. I used this from Dynamic Drive.

The Favicon has to have the .ico extension. Next upload it into your wordpress root folder.

If you have a hosted domain use FTP and put it in your first folder. The path would be your domain name/favicon.ico.

Next edit your header file. In wordpress it would be the header.php file. Found in the theme editor, under the presentation tab.

You want to add the code below between these two tags <head> and </head>.

<link rel=”shortcut icon” href=”the path to your favicon goes here” type=”image/x-icon” />

When cutting and pasting this code, don’t forget to change yourdomain.com, to your actual domain, or the path of the favicon.

This is actually easier than it sounds, and there are different ways to do this. I saw my new favicon right away in FireFox.

Internet Explorer caches icons. So you may need to clear your cache under internet options in IE. I had a previous icon cached so in order for me to clear it and have it show up in IE I had to rename my favicon.ico file to something new.

In order for me to do this I checked out the sites below. And I got some help from Sara over at the Blog Experiment Forum. Good Luck Everyone

Hello Everyone, I would love for my pages to be filled with the solution to every technical blog issue that arises. For brevity sake, I’m going to post periodic issues I have, and the solutions to solving them. These will change periodically and will be ongoing. If anyone has any advice or solutions please feel free to comment. Thanks Emma

Technical Issue #1

How do I get my feeds to show the full article?

Resolved!

I changed my wordpress options to show the full text not summary under feeds. As far as I know I don’t have this enabled:

Note: If you use the
<!--more-->
feature, it will cut off posts in RSS feeds.

From view source I did a search for the <!–more–> feature and found no instances.

I had feedburner ping my feed to see if this would update it.

So far it’s still showing partial feeds. I’ll be working on this one for awhile.

Resolution: It takes 24 hours for the feed to update, all I had to do was enable show full feeds in wordpress options and wait.

If anyone has any suggestions please send them to NewsScribe100@gmail.com

Technical Issue #2

How do I enable comments for my pages?

In order for this page idea to work correctly I need comments enabled. Once again until this is working please send info to NewsScribe100@gmail.com

Technical Issue # 3

How Do I Back Up My WordPress Blog?

Resolved!

An easy way to back up your wordpress database files is to use the wp-db-backup plugin, you can find it along with directions at this site.

Technical Issue #4

Can anyone explain how to align my text with my photos on the “10 Things I Like” post? Or know of some good tutorials on editing posts in WordPress?

NewsScribe100@gmail.com

Resolved!

Jen over at domestikgoddess.com was nice enough to send me this tip:

Easiest way is probably to put a clear=all break (<br clear=”all” />)
after each text-plus-photo chunk…

Which I’m sure would of worked, but I was to afraid to try.

Then International Hottie Antonio Marques from the Digital -Folders Network. Created a table in HTML for me. All I had to do was copy and paste. So I took the lazy way out and tried that. It worked now my Ten Things I Like post looks like it should.

Trackbacks

When I first started this blog, I wrote a very long and overly technical post on trackbacks. It’s time to simplify things. A trackback is just a way of notifying a blog publisher, that you linked to one of their articles.

WordPress

In WordPress, when you create a post, go to the bottom of the page, under the upload section. You will see Original Excerpt, Trackbacks, and Custom Fields. Click the + sign on Trackbacks.

Trackback URL

In the Send trackbacks to: field, enter the URL of the original post you are linking to. Most posts have trackback URL info, on the bottom of the post. You can also copy the post URL, as long as it is the one that refers to that individual post, not the entire site.

Pingback

A pingback does the same thing as a trackback, except you don’t have to post any additional URLs. When you link to a post on another blog. A pingback will appear in the comment section, of the post you linked to. This happens automatically.

Pingbacks Enabled?

Not all blogs have pingbacks enabled. Therefore you may want to manually enter a trackback, to let them know you linked to their article. Doing both may be considered spam. If your pingback does not show up. You may want to go back and add the trackback URL.

Tutorial

Teli Adlam wrote a great tutorial explaining trackbacks for WordPress.

                                                                                                                                                                                                    copyright itsWriteNow.com
