Yay, My Site Is Back Up
If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

In case some of you noticed my site was down from Friday until Tuesday. This blog is hosted with DreamHost and they had a server problem, and somehow my site got lost in the shuffle.
They were really good about answering my e-mails and eventually things got sorted out. This is the longest outage I’ve seen and it could probably happen to any hosting provider. The good thing is my files weren’t lost.
If anyone is interested in a new hosting plan with DreamHost you can save 90$ with promo code Emma90. That means you could get hosting for one year for 29.40$ with no signup fee and a free domain thrown in.
This is a good plan for beginning bloggers or people wanting to test the water. It’s also good for those folks who have multiple hosting plans so that their sites will have different IP addresses. The only drawback for some would be that DreamHost doesn’t use cPanel. But unless you have a specific need for cPanel it’s not a drawback at all.
The DreamHost control panel, is actually easier to use then cPanel, and it has most of the functionality. Plus the one click installs and updates are actually faster then the ones you would get if you are using Fantastico. Which is what most cPanel users use for easy updates. In fact, DreamHost even has a one click install of OpenX, if anyone is interested in running their own ad server.

Glad you are back in business Emma.. Re:”The good thing is my files weren’t lost” I can’t imagine how nerve wrecking that must have been. ‘lost in the shuffle’ sounds pretty scary

It’s so frustrating when servers go down, because you always have that fear of losing everything. In addition, you always want to put up new content. However, it’s great that DreamHost was there for you, and answered your questions. I’m glad the server was revived and your site was in tact!

I have been with Dreamhost for a while now with NO problems, but last night, my sites went down for almost an hour and I lost out on PPP opps, which really pissed me off. But, like you said, it can happen with any host. They’ve helped me out with some absolutely ridiculous questions before, so I’m not about to switch. I wish I’d had a promo code when I signed up! I didn’t even think to look for one.

DreamHost is OK, I do think hostgator may be better. But the promo code is a good deal. You must have some time off because I’ve noticed you’ve been doing a lot of writing lately. It’s always great to hear from you. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving.

Its great that your site is back again. However some of the sites may come across this problem due to some server problems or IP addresses.

The ‘joys’ of shared hosting, I’m glad to leave all of that in the past. Haven’t had any outage since I started hosting my site myself, and that’s now over 3 years ago.

Hey 13 it’s fitting that your the 13th comment. Self hosting would be nice because at least you are the one in control. Thanks for the visit.
