How To Get In The Akismet Folder Yes Spammer I’m Talking To You

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

SIERRA MADRE, CA - MAY 29: Spam, the often-ma... OK, you have to admit this is a little bit funny. This blog is not only do follow but I usually allow anchored links. I understand how important having anchored links are and my original intention was to reward those who were kind enough to visit my blog and take the time to leave a comment.

Also because I understand the importance of link building I normally just delete comments I don’t care for instead of throwing them in the Akismet folder. So pretty much the dumbest spammer in town should be able to get a do follow anchored link from my site.

That is until online divorce records thought it would be easy to sneak in an anchored link just by cutting and pasting a previous comment into the post. Unfortunately the previous comment was by me, and sounded a bit mocking.

commentspam

I know these links are diluting my page rank and also I am starting to attract a lot of spammers. Eventually I will probably stop being a do follow blog. But for now I’m leaving things the way they are. But for those folks leaving a comment don’t be a jerk about it. On a side note the newest version of snagit by TechSmith is awesome and you should all check it out. Till next time. Emma

    Hello Emma,

As for myself, I’ve never wanted to have “do follow” in comments for the usual reason (I don’t want people to comment ONLY to have a link back), plus I trust that people visiting the page who would read a quality comment would follow the link provided in the “post comment” form.

As for rewarding the regular quality commenters, I rely more on my blogroll.

    Have a nice week-end Emma,

    Stéphane

I allowed dofollow about a year ago and although I haven’t been hit by too many spammers I have seen my PR drop quite a bit. That said, seem to be getting a lot more visitors.

As usual you are right Stephane, I think I’ll be removing it pretty soon. You have a wonderful week end as well.

First I have to apologize that I have not visited your site more often. I have been really busy with side projects and then burning out and then side projects again. I really need to get better organized, if that is possible with all of the information out there that I’m trying to suck in at once.

I agree with the spammers and also with allowing people to put links in to comments. I have had people trying to get away with so much. It is a good thing that I get emails when people comment, otherwise I wouldn’t have the time to go though spam on the site, sometimes in upwards of 200 a week. Guess it could be worse.

Hey Mark, I’ve missed you. I understand about being busy, I don’t visit blogs or post as much as I used to. It’s nice of you to stop by and I’m glad you’re still around. The social aspect of comments is actually the part I like best anyway.

yep still around. One of my projects ASMW or http://amiest.musicwednesday.com is coming along rather nicely. Infact i’m having a contest to promote it on http://mouseclone.com. Maybe some of your readers would be intrested.

I think that I will get your site on my blog roll, I need to read them the most and it would get me to visit here more often.

Nice blog and Really I felt happy what you feel about link building work at do follow blogs.
Yes you are right that do follow tag may attract spam posts, but if you check every post before approval, I think it will give value to your blog as everyone is not spammy.:)

    hi Emma

had to laugh at your cut and paste spammer I had the same yesterday, the wally had cut the first comment on a 6 month old post, and used it again. but it was a comment from a friend of mine, to me and I recognised it straight away..

the front of these people :)

dont lose the dofollow faith, - we run 2 dofollow blogs and same as you allow anchors on genuine comments.

    Hello All,
Just tuning in to your blog. Looks like there has been a bit of ‘unauthorized’ or definitely unwanted attendance. How about that cut and paste spammer - what’s the point. If you have nothing to say it makes no sense to say something someone else said six months ago - unless of course you are doing the link ‘building’ - think it’s too obvious? Alrighty then. My comment is I need comments. I’m new at all of this web stuff. From the read you all seem to be to the point. I’ve put hundreds of hours into my site and I’m getting trickles of traffic - 3 months into it I had hoped for a bit more traffic by now. Care to visit my site and give me a comment or two. Old man would appreciate it. Any way, good luck deciding on your blogging issues and here’s hoping I get some bonafied commentary as to what’s up with my site. Thanks all, have a nice day…
