Link Love

heart.jpg

I recently had a small surge in my traffic. I thought it was my brilliant writing, but I just discovered that I got a little publicity when my favorite newscaster mentioned me in her blog. After this boost, my small traffic surge became a small traffic plummet. From what I could tell people hated the Bonnie & Clyde story. I did some editing and my traffic has recovered.

Lessons Learned

  • Keep it Succinct – People don’t want to wade through extra information.

  • Grab the readers interest in the first paragraph – They may not read any further.

  • Keep it Upbeat – People want to walk away feeling good about what they just read.

  • Mix it Up – Use different writing styles and tones.

  • Edit, Edit, Edit – You get it.

Most of the popular blogs, stay on topic, and try to offer the readers some type of unique content. Hopefully I’ll do the same.

I liked the Bonnie and Clyde article and don’t understand those others who didn’t. You sound like you are getting tired. Don’t give up you can make the every 30 days goal. I have to go jog, I mean ride but I enjoy your blog!!!

It is true that you should definately catch the visitor’s attention within the first paragraph.

This helps avoid a high bounce rate. Bounce rate can affect search engine rankings.

It’s great having a well designed website, but if you bounce rate is too high, Google will inevitably push you down the SERPs in preference of a site with a lower bounce rate.
