Learn CSS The Lazy Way

If your lazy like me and you want to know how CSS works, but you don’t want to memorize all of the code. You just want to find out what you need to know.  Then as you gradually make changes the knowledge will all fall into place. Then you have to watch this video.

Mark over at the Niche Store Builder site has been making these really informative videos. I just watched Using the Firebug Extension for FireFox to Understand Site Layout and it was like a light bulb going off in my head. I use both IE and FireFox and I’ve known about the Firebug extension, but I wasn’t sure how to use it. After all reading all of that information on the about page is a lot of work.

If you are interested in having successful blogs and web sites and perhaps earning a little cash while your at it. Then there is a lot you need to learn. When I first began I was fascinated to just be using WordPress. Now, I know that it’s possible to outsource technical chores you can’t do. But that’s easier said than done.

I’m pretty sure in order to make money online, it helps to learn, how to code. How to properly use the tools you need. From simple things like WordPress and Windows Live Writer to HTML, CSS and PHP. To SEO, keyword research, and link building.

Don’t be afraid to dive in and start doing while your still learning. But check out some of Mark’s tutorials while your at it, they’re really helpful. There’s a lot to learn. So good luck and get busy.

Macromedia dreamweaver has a CSS template the works as a WYSIWYG. Ive found it to be good for a basic design. There is nothing messier that building pages with tables out of wack on different pages, so I use this method.

Sounds good to me Dreamweaver in one of my tools I’m learning.

Coding is making me tear my hair out at this point. I’m trying to build a really simple site that would be easy to add pages to, and the dumbest things are going wrong.

I have a copy of Dreamweaver I need to get out and dust off. It may be just the thing I need.

I still havn’t mastered Dreamweaver, but I’m working on it. Good luck with your site. I’m sure it will be great.

  7. I have to say I never completely learned html, php, or css. But I learned enough to build complete sites and find out what I needed on the fly by searching Google. Another good tool for this, along with Firebug, is the Web Developer toolbar. I use it all the time because it has tools like a ruler to measure exact pixel amounts on a page when you need to size or position things. Great tools! I don’t know now how I lived without them.

One of the problems I see is that many people who complain about CSS being too difficult haven’t really learned how to code HTML properly. Jumping into CSS-based layouts without a solid understanding of HTML will not be easy. Going from table-based WYSIsortofWYG tag soup to structured, semantic HTML+CSS will take some time and effort. But it’s worth it.

Some knowledge of CSS, HTML and PHP definitely helps in blogging. I’v seen many people who don’t know how to add a simple tracking/ad code to their template or theme. Why? Because they don’t want to learn new things. The video about FireBug is cool and it will help many bloggers. Thanks.

I learned by basically doing, granted I’m not that good yet, it takes me forever to code up something decent looking in css.

I tend to snoop at other people’s code and use concepts and ideas I like.

  13. Bouncer says:

who says you need to learn all the code??

jus regularly work on your site and you will see how easily you start grabbing CSS ..

    it comes with time

  14. Lisekjaer says:

The way I learned about CSS was by using Dreamweaver – it’s really the easiest way! But of course you need to know your basics – if you don’t get html you won’t get far. There are lots of learning videos out there just by searching on google – and there should be because people who use CSS have MUCH better looking sites.

This definally sounds like me but i’m to the point now that I know a good bit about CSS from just hunting for what I need for my sites. I will take a look at the video. It would help to have a better grasp on what i’m actually doing.

  17. Schuppen says:

Perhaps our behavior towards learning CSS or JAVASCRIPT or other language is dull. We want to learn how to write well or how to earn money from our sites, that is not good. I often read books or visit css learning blogs and sites. You know, I always feel much relaxed after seeking some tricks and tips.

I have been blogging since 2 years and I thought that I am a successful blogger now but what was am doing before that? I was coding in oracle, dotnet technologies(MS technologies) and a few experience in Java as well, but, all that was so boring. I am a full time blogger and have more than 10 blogs with a few traffic and PR. I am so glad that I know all that technical stuff as well because it is fun to write about that. All my blogs have such content and it is always picked up very easily.
