BANS Is Not Dead Yet

My theory about Google slapping BANS may not be correct. Has Google penalized .info’s? Yes. Does Google penalize duplicate content? Yes. Is BANS still useful for creating eBay affiliate sites? I think maybe so. I was listening to Vic’s very passionate video cast the other night. And I realized I hadn’t really given BANS a fair chance.

I threw up some hastily created .info BANS sites, without doing proper keyword research and without putting much effort into link building or promoting them. I’ve been starting to get some traffic to my sites and I continue to make a sale here and there. The .info’s are not indexed by Google but they are getting some slight traffic from the other search engines.

So I’m going to do some experimenting with my best pre-owned domain which is indexed and has already made some sales. First off I did some new keyword research trying to find at least 3 new “buying keywords”.

According to Vic “buying keywords” are what people use to search when they are looking to buy something. For instance if I had a site about angels, I would target things like cheap angel statues, or french depression glass angels. Something specific that would target what a buyer is looking for.

I make sure these terms are being searched using keyword elite, and I also check out the competition using Google and SEO Elite. My goal is to build enough links to outrank my competition for my specific terms.

To avoid duplicate content penalties I took the categories off of my BANS sites and just used keywords for the query terms. I also added some unique information at the beginning and end of each page. I also added a custom banner and custom colors to the template so it won’t look like every other BANS site.

Will these techniques work? I’m not sure, but I think so. I know other people are still doing well with their BANS sites.  BANS is really just another form of an affiliate banner. Some affiliate sites are spammy some are useful. I’ll try to create some visually appealing sites that help searchers find a specific product. I’ll keep you posted on the results.

I have nothing to say about BANS, but regarding .info…

    Google may be penalizing .info

But with proper web site content and link building, you can get it out from it

Sometimes you get banned from google doing the right things and is really hard to come back from that ban or flag, so Google should be more carrefull about that.
