What I Like About HostGator

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

hostgator I not only have a DreamHost account I have recently signed up for a HostGator Resellers Account. Which I have mostly been using for my BANS sites. The great thing about having a reseller account is that you can have a different account for each site.

If you go crazy with a site and mess it up and don’t install things correctly it’s no problem. You can just delete that one account. Then take the domain and create a new account and start over. So even though a resellers account is usually for advanced users it can benefit a beginner as well.

Another great thing about HostGator is that they use cPanel. CPanel is the standard control panel for web hosting. Getting to know cPanel will benefit you, if you switch to other hosting plans that use it. Plus there are many automated tools, that are only for cPanel users, such as Domain Dashboard.

I like the control of having a WHM for the reseller account and then an individual cPanel for each new account. In fact my only two complaints about DreamHost are no resellers account option, and instead of using cPanel they have their own proprietary control pane. Which is good. But, it is not the standard, so you can’t use 3rd party tools, to control your DreamHost sites.

Anther good thing about HostGator is that they have a solid reputation and they seem to be the most recommended web hosting I’ve seen out there. Also their tech support is very good. I had a couple of issues with setting up my resellers account and they answered my questions promptly.

The only drawback of a resellers account is the price 24.95$ a month. Hostgator has other hosting plans as well, so you don’t have to get the reseller account, you could also sign up for a less expensive shared hosting plan, and still enjoy the benefits of HostGator’s solid reputation, and the control of cPanel.

As for me I’ll be using both. I’m keeping my DreamHost shared hosting and I’m still working on my new sites on the HostGator Reseller account.

My recommendation would be if you plan on building multiple, multiple, sites and continually adding on, and you don’t mind the price, go for the HostGator reseller account. If you are just testing the water and creating a few blogs then save the money, and get the DreamHost plan for 29.40$ for the entire year. And then just sit back and blog to your hearts content.

Yes, I agree. But what do you think about Godaddy? I know they always give a lot of coupon code to waive the total price. Do you use them too?

Of course I use Go Daddy to purchase domains but not for hosting. I do beleive that host gator and dreamhost are the best hosting options. But Go Daddy is the best place to purchase and manage domains.

You’re right when you mentioned Hostgator is a little pricey. However, being pricey is often better (much better) than being dishonest. The reason I like Hostgator is because of their honest way of doing business - no catch-22 behind bombastic marketing slogans, no hidden fees, no over-promised hosting features, what you get is what you see - that’s what I like the best.

@lunarpages if you aren’t familiar with bans you could click on the link. Basically it’s a script that pulls data feeds from ebay.

@HG review I don’t think hostgator is pricey. I think the reseller account is pricey. I haven’t heard about any of the major hosting companies being dishonest. I use dreamhost as well and they are great shared hosting, just no reseller accounts and no cpanel.
