Finally Triple Digits!

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

My feed count has finally reached triple digits. Thank-you Subscribers. My contest and extra exposure due to Entrecard, helped me meet this milestone. Now I feel even more pressure, to come up with some fun and informative articles, to keep you interested. I’ll try not to disappoint.

I also installed the What Would Seth Godin Do plug-in, which displays a message to new readers, reminding them to subscribe. It sounds like a little thing, but it seems to be effective. Speaking of plug ins, in case your wondering how I get my secret messages, on the bottom of my feed. I use the RSS signature plug in.

Finally, I would like to talk a little bit about trial and error. We can spend all day reading other peoples experiences and opinions. This can broaden our knowledge, and help point us in the right direction. But with blogging and Internet marketing, we don’t really know what works, until we try it.

Recently, I was reading Day Job Nuker and Bruce was talking about benefits of using Scratchback. He said that besides making a little extra from displaying the widget on your site. For a dollar you can put a link on another site. Even to an affiliate site or landing page.

This made perfect sense to me. I signed up for Scratchback and created a widget. The problem was, every time I put the widget on my site, I would lose my tabbed featured post box, at the top of my site. At first, I panicked, and tried to remember when my last back up was. But, by adding and removing the widget, I know for sure that there is some kind of conflict, between the code in my theme and the code in the widget.

There is a certain amount of power in understanding what does and doesn’t work, especially when derived from  your own experience. Other peoples advice is nice. But don’t be afraid to experiment and find out what works for you.

Stephane, you are one of those people who were here from the beginning. Thanks for sticking around. I always love to hear from you.

This is baffling to us as well. There’s no reason why our widget should change anything on your page. Unfortunately, without access to your code, we cannot trouble shoot it for you.

I can tell you that this is the first we’ve seen of something like this, if that helps :)

Thanks Jim, it’s really cool that you respond to me personally. I’ve heard of you and I know your an A-lister. I don’t have a problem with you looking at my blog code. The theme is by Michael Pollock and I believe he used microformats. I know it has a lot of bells and whistles. I’m not knowledgeable enough at this point to figure it out. I think scratchback has a lot of potential, and I hope to be able to use it someday. Congratulations on a successful project. Emma

Thank you so much for this article and congrats on the RSS readers (you’ve just added one with me). I have been wondering what the Seth Godin plugin was as I’ve seen it on other blogs but didn’t know where to find it for my own. That’s exactly what I’ve been looking for! Thank you!!

Thanks, Emma! A prize would be very welcome, but I’m just as happy to hear good thoughts from other writers. I’m enjoying what I’m reading here and thought I’d pass along the encouragement. :)

There’s some kind of glitch in feedburner. Problogger has 100k subscribers. Unfortunately I wasn’t affected.

Nice work Emma. I am a new subscriber and reader of your blog as well. I look forward to reading more good stuff from your blog as well as catching up on some of your older stuff.

One thing I like to do when I find a new blog to read is ask the author to direct me to three articles within their archive for me to read. Would you mind dropping a comment back to me with links to three of yours? I would love to read the three that you recommend.

Nice to meet you and I’ll be here from time to time. Thank you for visiting my blog too, I hope that you enjoy reading my posts. :)

Thank-you Gary, I always feel a little pressure when I gain readers, especially when they are other successful bloggers, such as yourself. It’s nice to meet you, too. I’m actually flattered that you stopped by. I will get those 3 links to you soon. Emma

    Emma:

Congrats on reaching a new level of RSS subscribers. You definitely deserve it.

Also, you’re so right about trial and error. I’ve been dreading upgrading from Wordpress 2.2 to 2.3.2. So yesterday, after reading this post as a matter of fact, I finally upgraded my test site to version 2.3.2. Did I hit a few bumps along the way? Yes, but I wrote down what did/did not work. I almost upgraded my primary site today but chickened out. Ah well, there’s always next weekend!

I just hit triple digits a few weeks ago and put a Scratchback widget up. There is definitely something to be said about all the choices when it comes to advertising lately. Have you check out Project Wonderful yet?

Yeah, I’ve been a bad boy not making all the rounds like I should. Things have been fairly topsy-turvy on my end of things but life is like that at times. I think that perhaps life needs to take some time off and go somewhere warm and sunny so it might catch a better attitude and all that. :)

Glad you found the source of the problem. Trial and error seems to be the best teacher in this business.
