Sign Up For Pay Per Play

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

I find it quite annoying, when I click on a site, and audio starts playing automatically. I normally prefer to browse in silence, or have something of my own choosing playing in the background. So, why would I sign up for Pay Per Play?

There are some instances, where something like pay per play could be useful. If you create a niche site with certain targeted traffic. You can create revenue with people just clicking to the site, without having to click on any ads.

These sites aren’t really about gaining a following of readers so if the ads are a turnoff to some you won’t really be out much. Plus, some less Internet savvy people don’t even mind the audio. When I got my first at home Internet connection in 1998, I thought sites with audio were magical. Of course things have come along way since then.

This service isn’t going live until February 2008. So I can’t tell you if it will be good or bad. But you have nothing to lose by signing up now. And having it in your monetization arsenal. Plus if it does take off, you can start getting your affiliates signed up now. For possible monetization down the line.

You can sign up for Pay Per Play for free. It only takes a couple of minutes. One caveat, when I was signing up there is a check box asking if you want to install the code on your sites now. I deselected this box, and I was able to sign up anyway. If I use this service it will probably be on some niche sites. Not this blog. So there’s nothing to lose, by at least signing up now.

If your wondering how I keep track of all of my accounts and passwords I use a moleskine notebook. The reason I mention this is because moleskines are awesome and also one of the prizes I will be giving away in my RSS subscriber contest I’m currently having. Moleskine Sketchbook Pocket is my favorite one right now. As you can see other people love them too since Amazon says they are currently out of stock.

One last thing, I found a great post on Op Tempo today about how niche sites differ from our regular blog. These are the exact reasons why something like Pay Per Play may be appropriate for a niche site.

Hi Kotsengkuba, I don’t have an email subscriber feed set up. I know a lot of bloggers have them and it is probably a good idea to have one. I just kind of feel too many email subscriptions is kind of invasive. But I don’t think it will be too hard for me to ad one. Thanks to feedburner. So I’ll look into it. I just like to keep things simple. Thanks for visiting. I love new readers and comments.

I find audio/video ads more annoying than pop-ups. You follow a link and suddenly a video clip starts playing automatically where an internet guru welcomes you and flaunts his wealth, tempting you to get his “best-kept secret”. Sounds too familiar; doesn’t it? All the spam internet gurus use it and that’s precisely the reason I find it annoying. In fact, I’ve been tortured by these gurus so much that whenever I think of a video ad, I can’t help but think that it could be a spam. JMHO. :)

I never said they weren’t annoying.

Annoying or not you can see it on more and more blogs. Personally I don’t like it(just wish it can be placed somewhere visible so I can turn it off easily) but hey if it brings money and doesn’t drive people away from your blog why not?

Thank-you Vinston, I wouldn’t put it on this blog. Only a niche site that it might be appropriate for. I agree audio on web sites is usually annoying.

I think it´s only too annoying if those audio ads are “trashy”. I think if they have some kind of “quality”, the users won´t be scared away. Sure, it would also be nice to have some influence (like muting those ads) in the future. Let´s see what´ll happen on February 1st…
