According to Wikipedia;

A tag is a (relevant) keyword or term associated with or assigned to a piece of information (a picture, a geographic map, a blog entry, a video clip etc.), thus describing the item and enabling keyword-based classification and search of information.

According to Jill Whalen from HighRankings.com title tags are keywords in your title. According to MetaFilter; Tags are simply free-form keywords people have used to describe their posts. Sometimes the basic HTML commands are called tags.

For those of you who have updated to WordPress 2.3 I’m sure you have noticed the new tag line under your posts. Also if your using a plugin such as related posts to make your blog more sticky then you need tags.

With WordPress 2.3 you can add your tags manually, but I want a faster method. Especially for my old blog posts that I would like to use the related post plugin with. This post by Lorelle on WordPress 2.3 Tag News seems to have the most information and links I could find.

The plugin I chose to help manage my WordPress 2.3 tags is Simple Tags. This was a good choice because it was not only updated for the current version of WordPress, but it has a built in related post section, plus it made it simple to go back and add tags to my older posts.

If your not using tags, I definitely recommend that you update WordPress and install the Simple Tags plugin. Happy blogging, Emma
