There has been a lot of talk in the blogosphere lately about selling blogs. So I thought I would just link to some relevant information. First what is your blog worth:

Lastly, I would like to say a little something about the recent addition of One Man’s Goal, to the blog for sell market. I even considered doing a link bait piece about why it’s a bad idea. But then I reconsidered. Our blogs are ours to create, build, change, monetize, and sell as we please.
Bryan is probably doing the right thing selling now, before the blog selling craze gets out of hand, with supply exceeding demand, kind of like real estate. He will still blog and work on web projects. He can always start another blog which continues where the first one left off.
A couple of caveats. When I first read on Problogger that One Man’s Goal was up for sell. I immediately wondered why he didn’t take the original offer of 18,000$ he was writing about. If that was a real offer, it seems like a no brainer. But he openly admits, in retrospect that it was a great offer. Secondly, what about his 10k pixel page? I was planning to purchase some pixels as soon as my logo was perfected.
These things aside, I’ll miss reading One Man’s Goal. Although I’ll probably keep an eye on it, to see how it evolves. And I’m sure I’ll subscribe to Bryan’s next blog. Best of Luck with your sell Bryan.

You said it correctly. The market is hot, and I’m going to cash out while ahead.
I will still have another personal blog, just on a different domain. The blog isn’t going to be much different, it’s the extra cash that is going to help!

I think your timing is very good. Best of Luck! I’m looking forward to your future projects.

Bryan, I’m really curious how much money you will get for your blog. It’s true that the market is hot but I hope it will stay that way for quite some time.

Interesting. Before I purchased my current domain name I had GoDaddy contact a domain owner to ask how much he wanted for his domain name. I thought, okay, I’ll willingly pay a hundred bucks or so. The domain name in question had been inactive since 2005 (it had the word blog in the title), but he’d never bothered to put up a website - he just purchased the domain and parked it. GoDaddy were authoried to offer up to $230 on my behalf, which they did. Imagine my surprise when the guy asked $6,800!
Needless to say, I didn’t pay that. For established websites with a strong loyal readership I can see asking several thousand dollars for a site, but for a site that’s been parked for 2 years, I don’t think so!

That’s interesting Chanya. I guess selling domains is big business these days.

Hey Emma nice thoughts on this. OneMansGoal.com might be an account of Bryan’s journey through a particular niche, and has a lot of personalized content, but the domain name is awesome and can be applied to many different areas if you look at it. Therefore, while Bryan might have moved on to other sites as his journey brings him beyond the idea behind OMG, the new owner can easily apply the same concept in his own account or even other niches. The blog helped to brand Bryan, and the result can be seen from your own comment that you will surely check out his new projects and become a future subscriber.

I don’t know they might have to change the new site to “A Different Man’s Goal”.

I can understand wanting to sell a blog and get some cash. But the blogs worth reading are almost all due to the voice of the blogger. While buying a blog can get you a built in readership I really expect most purchases of blogs to turn out to be mistakes for the buyers.
